High overcast sky's today with a few snow flakes now and then. Visibility wasn't great at the top. I went with a few guests of ours from Australia to show them a few runs they probably wouldn't taken. Always fun to show people the mountain. Main runs were tracked out but Feuz Bowl was still really nice and had a couple runs of fresh untracked snow. Some predictions of a big dump of snow coming Friday. Certainly the temperature is supposed to go up. Today was nice and cool. I love the cold snow. We have a full house with a few Aussies, Germans, Canadians and Suisse. Great group.

Fabulous Day in paradise today. Temperatures stayed nice and cool. Probably about -10C for the most part and blue-bird Sky's. And with about 15 cms of new snow over the past few days and nobody on the hill, it doesn't get much better. Consistent snow from top to bottom. I took some of our guests out for a couple runs. Paul Sacco and his friends from Vermont and Ray from Australia who is with us for 8 days. He is going to be in for a treat, because the weatherman is calling for more snow this weekend. Great day at Kicking Horse. It snowed about 9cm overnight with temperature about -9C which meant for really nice fluffy snow. I went with a couple guests, Helena and Eric from England and friend Jeff from Golden for a couple runs down into Bowl-Over and then into double-header. Snow was outstanding with a lot of fresh tracks. Supposed to be a good dump coming on Sunday too. Strange weather here at Kicking Horse. Yesterday it was -25C in Golden and -8C at the top and today was about -15C at Vagabond Lodge and 0C at the top. Beautiful sunny sky's. I went up after lunch with some regular guests from Calgary and had a lot of fun showing them the mountain. They have been coming every year and that's what makes staying at Vagabond Lodge so special. And that is why we enjoy doing what we do. Guys like Neil, Bill, Bob and Stuart make it fun. And we had fun today. Temperature changed a lot over the past day. Snow has stopped and we managed to get about another 15 cm over the past 48 hours. Temperature went from about 2-4 above C, to about -10C. Perfect temperatures and the skiing is sweet. Snow so soft you don't even know it is there. Beautiful Sunny day at Kicking Horse. Actually the day started off cloudy and a few snow flakes coming down. But about 10am, turned into a gorgeous day. One of my neighbours here at Kicking Horse, Larry wanted to go for a few runs. We decided to head over to Superbowl which is the newest terrain here at Kicking Horse and is about a 10 minute hike. I had only done it once before earlier in the season when the snow wasn't that great. But now the conditions are fabulous. At the end of the bowl we both looked up on the Ridge and saw some great ski runs we had never done before coming from the top. Actually Larry had been there once before a few years ago and with the sun shinning and lots of snow over the past week, we decided to head up to the top of Terminator Ridge and then ski back down into Superbowl. It is about a 30 minute hike up to the top. A few places it is a little scary but we managed to get to the top. After a bit of a rest we found a great line with still some nice soft snow about up to your knees in places. It is not something I would do on a regular basis but certainly on a day like today with great visibility and great snow, it was well worth the effort. The resort got about 5cm last night and it has been snowing most of the day. Not a big accumulation but probably another 10 by the time it will end. And then they are calling for sunny skies for a few days and temperatures around 0C. That will be pretty sweet skiing. We have a big group checking in for the weekend from Calgary but have some availability starting Sunday. Things are filling up nicely for February. Still some spaces in March which is always a great snow month. Kicking Horse got a nice article in Ski Canada Magazine. Check it out. Sun came out at Kicking Horse after about a week of steady snow. Over 100 cms of powder. And now with the sunshine..it doesn't get much better. Road to Calgary via radium(1 hour longer) is finally open although the Transcanada isn't yet. Maybe tomorrow. We have a group coming in from Calgary for the weekend. Still some rooms for midweek. February hasn't got much left though. March is always great skiing here though. Give us a call toll free 1 866 944 2622 Snowing lightly most of the day. I went up in the afternoon for a couple runs. Terminator was really nice with nice fresh snow. They are calling for about 20 cms over the next couple days. Maybe the busiest day so far this season but really not much of a lineup. We still have a couple rooms available for New Years. Give us a call or tell a friend. $275 per night double occupancy. 3 night minimum. One of the great things to do in the area is snowshoeing. You can go right from our door and make trails anywhere in the trees. Along with son Kori and his fiance Elaine that is what we did yesterday. It was a fabulous afternoon. A lot of solitude. Some low cloud cover in the morning here at Kicking Horse. I went up about 1pm with a neighbour Bob for a few runs. It was actually quite cool at the top with a bit of a breeze and temperatures about -15C. I didn't really come prepared for the cold temperatures. As long as you were moving it was okay, but the chair ride was longer than I wanted. Snow conditions at the top is really nice. We had some powder a few days ago and it hasn't been very busy so still some nice soft snow and I was surprised by how quiet it was on the hill. I guess everyone is Christmas shopping. There is supposed to be some snow coming in a couple days. Reminder if you are looking for a New Years trip, we still have a couple rooms left. The resort always has some special events planned with a nice dinner and live music at the top of the mountain and fireworks in the plaza area. |
